Description
Moat Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a rear addition from the mid to late 17th century and some alterations from the 19th century. The building is timber framed and encased in 19th-century red brick with white brick quoining, topped with a roof of glazed black pantiles. It is designed in a 3-cell, lobby entrance style and features three 19th-century large-pane casement windows set under segmental arches. A 19th-century gabled porch, which matches the facade, has scalloped bargeboards, a four-panel entrance door, and a plain rectangular fanlight. There is an internal stack, with the shaft rebuilt in the early 20th century. Much of the timber frame is exposed on the interior. Inside, the hall includes an ovolo-moulded bridging beam and a matching cornice, along with an arched brick fireplace in the hall chamber. One of the service rooms features an ovolo-moulded doorway, likely re-used from the original outside doorway. The farmhouse retains its original newel stairs on both flights and several old doors. Additionally, there are remains of a medieval moat surrounding the property.
