Description

Rookery Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse located in Fressingfield. It features a timber-framed structure that is plastered, with part of the north gable end encased in red brick. The roof has glazed black pantiles on the front (east) and plain tiles on the rear. The building is two storeys high with an attic and follows a three-cell, lobby entrance layout.

There are three windows, which are large-paned casements from the 18th and 19th centuries, along with an additional late 19th-century sash window on the first floor. A 19th-century gabled open porch with ornamental bargeboards and a spike finial leads to a six-panel raised and fielded door, where the upper panels are glazed.

Inside, there is an internal stack with three truncated detached octagonal shafts, each featuring a moulded base, and a gable stack at the north (service) end. The parlour boasts a good early 17th-century stuccoed fireplace with a depressed concave-moulded arch, and the square surround has ovolo moulding with a reddish-pink colour, which may be original. The parlour chamber displays heavy close studding and a cross-beamed ceiling. Additionally, there is some re-used 16th to 17th-century oak panelling against the first-floor side passage, and the original newel stairs are present in both flights.
