Description

FRESSINGFIELD CHIPPENHALL GREEN TM 27 NE 6/17 - Rookery Farmhouse -- II

Farmhouse. C16. Timber framed and plastered, part of the north gable end encased in red brick. The roof has glazed black pantiles to the front (east) and plaintiles to the rear. 2 storeys and attic. 3-cell, lobby entrance type. 3 windows, C18-C19 large-paned casements; an extra late C19 sash window on the first floor. c19 gabled open porch with ornamental bargeboards and spike finial; C19 6-panel raised and fielded door, the upper panels glazed. Internal stack with 3 truncated detached octagonal shafts, each with a moulded base. Gable stack at north (service) end. The parlour each good early C17 stuccoed fireplace with a depressed concave-moulded arch; the square surround has ovolo moulding with reddish-pink colouring, perhaps original. The parlour chamber has heavy close studding and a cross-beamed ceiling. Against the first floor side passage some re-used C16-C17 oak panelling. Original newel stairs (both flights).
