Description
High House is a 16th-century farmhouse located on Wilby Road in Stradbroke. The building is timber framed, with parts covered in mid-20th century colourwashed brick, including the facade, and some areas are roughcast-rendered. The roof is tiled with plain tiles at the front and pantiles at the rear. It has two storeys and follows a three-cell, lobby entry layout.
The windows are mid-20th century single-pane casements, while two original first-floor mullioned windows have been enlarged, and others remain exposed on the interior. The house features an early 19th-century gabled porch with an original half-glazed door that has pointed-arch glazing bars in the upper panes, along with a hoodmould over the doorway. There is an internal stack and a smaller later gable stack to the right. Inside, much of the high-quality timber framing is visible, with storey posts in the hall and parlour that have carved consoles. The hall joists are closely spaced and chamfered, and there are two arched brick fireplaces on the first floor.
