Description

Chestnut Cottage is a house likely dating from the 15th century, with alterations in the 16th, 17th, and 19th centuries. It is timber-framed, with the front and left gable end faced in 19th-century red brick, while the rest is plastered. The roof is covered in pantiles. The house is one-and-a-half storeys high, featuring four windows with small panes fitted in the mid-20th century and four gabled dormers. An internal stack has a rendered shaft. A mid-20th century door is set within an enclosed gabled porch against the left gable end. The building is composed of four bays, with the bay at the right-hand end being a later addition. Inside, original first-floor studding is visible, along with a blocked window containing diamond mullions which was probably part of a hall window. The floor structure is largely concealed.
