Description
Willow Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was built in two phases: the southern part dates back to the 15th century, while the northern part is a 16th-century addition. The building is timber-framed, with some areas plastered and others finished with modern cement render; the north gable end is covered in colourwashed brick up to the eaves. It has a pantiled roof and consists of two storeys plus an attic, arranged in a two-cell form. There are three windows, which are 18th-century three-light casements featuring large panes, and three boarded doors. Inside, there is an internal axial stack. The earlier section of the farmhouse includes a former open hall, characterized by an open truss with a cambered tie beam supported by heavy arched braces. The roof features a queen-post design, where the collar of the open truss supports a king post that holds up the ridge piece, a rare configuration. All medieval roof components show signs of being smoke-blackened. At the southern end of the east wall, there is a blocked external doorway with a four-centred arched head, indicating that the medieval service end has been lost. The 16th-century section includes some close studding, several blocked original windows, and an intact roof structure, along with 16th-century newel stairs that are present in both flights.
