Description

74 Wellington Road is an early 19th-century villa, built between 1820 and 1830, likely an enlargement of an earlier cottage. The building is two storeys tall and has a stucco facade with a three-bay front, featuring a slightly wider area of blank wall on the right. It has a low-pitched gable end slate roof with flat bracketed eaves and stucco chimney stacks. The plinth is prominent, and the ground floor windows are set in shallow segmental arched panels with relief apron panels below the sills. The first-floor windows are surrounded by architraves with very shallow cornices, and the central window features segmental pediments. All the windows are glazing bar sashes.

The entrance is particularly elegant, featuring a porch supported by two pairs of Tuscan columns on moulded bases, with pilasters on the wall. The frieze displays alternating trophies and metopes between triglyphs, topped by a shallow projecting bracketed cornice. The porch is raised on a platform of five shallow stone steps. The broad two-leaf door consists of eight moulded panels and is flanked by attenuated fluted Doric columns set in reveals, with a segmental fanlight above featuring linked circle and scroll pattern glazing. There is also a one-storey extension on the north side, which includes a small round-headed window with small panes.
