Description
These are a pair of semi-detached red brick villas, dating from around 1850 to 1840. They are located on the west side of Bristol Road in Edgbaston. Both have hipped slate roofs and flat eaves. Each villa has three bays, featuring intact glazing bar sash windows with a sill band to the first floor. Around 1900, rectangular bay windows with wood casements were added to the ground floor of each villa. Centred on the front of each is a six-panel door leading up a flight of steps. The flattened column frames are contained in reveals with radial glazed fanlights above entablatures. Number 217 has an ornate cast iron porch with a square plan, openwork standards of superimposed balusters rising between leaf-decorated shafts, and vase pattern balcony railings above.
