Description
This is a pair of semi-detached villas, built around 1830 to 1840. They are of stucco construction, two storeys high, and originally had three bays to each house. The roofs are hipped and covered with slate, with a decorative cornice and a bed mould to the shallow eaves. Stucco chimneys project from the roof. A plinth and a band below the first-floor windows run along the front. The windows are sash windows, and the original glazing bars are preserved in Number 221. The doorways are centrally positioned on each front, with architrave surrounds, impost blocks to the archivolt arches, engaged Greek Doric columns, shallow entablatures over the doors, and fanlights above with a leaded marginal and inverted fan pattern of glazing. The doors themselves are six-panelled and recessed within panelled reveals. The houses are set back from the road behind a semi-circular sweep for carriages, flanked by tall, plain stucco gate piers.
