Description

This is an 18th and 19th century red brick villa, situated on Wellington Road in Edgbaston. The main, two-story, three-bay structure is set back behind a carriage sweep. A slightly recessed, one-bay service wing sits on the north side, facing the front. The front elevation features a stucco plinth, a plat band, and a sill course, creating the impression of an applied parapet. The roof is slated with a hipped design, flat eaves, and corniced chimneys. First-floor sash windows are set in timber frames, with stucco architraves, carried down to the plat band. The outer first-floor windows have segmental pediments, while the central window is topped with a triangular pediment. Ground-floor windows have plain stucco surrounds with entablatures, the cornices projecting from the plat band. An Ionic column porch, with an entablature and a parapet featuring a row of small ornamental portholes, provides access to a double-leaf, four-panel door, which is set within deep reveals and has a rectangular fanlight above. The ground floor of the service wing mirrors the style of the main house with similar windows. The south-west garden front has two two-story bay windows.
