Description

This is an 1830 stucco villa located on Wellington Road, Edgbaston, originally known as No. 62 (The Drive). It stands on a lane to the rear of No. 61, with grounds extending to the east and south.

The villa is a substantial two-story building. The three-bay entrance front, facing east, is at a right angle to the lane. It features shallow, two-story bowed frontages flanking the central entrance bay, with revealed glazing bar sashes. A pedimented and pilastered doorway is likely an alteration from the 1840s or 1850s. The roof is slate, hipped in design, with flat eaves and corniced chimneys.

The south garden front has three widely spaced bays. The ground floor is channelled up to the first floor sill band. The first floor has architrave framed glazing bar sashes, with a coupled pair on the right-hand side; the ground floor has marginal glazed French casements set in panels, with channelling struck as voussoirs to segmental arches.

A red brick hipped roof stable block adjoins the north side of the house, connecting with stable yard gate piers on the lane side. These piers are tall, stucco-faced, set on plinths, and have pediment and acroteria caps.
