Description
This is an 1840s red brick villa, prominently set back behind a carriage sweep within its garden, located on Wellington Road in Edgbaston. The property is complemented by a linked coach house to the south and a north wing added between 1870 and 1880.
The original villa is two storeys and three bays wide. It features a stucco plinth and a band running along the first-floor sills. The roof is slated and hipped, with corniced chimneys on either side. There are sash windows with revealed glazing bars. The ground floor windows have stucco sills; the upper floor windows have stucco lintels incorporating incised central rosettes flanked by consoles supporting cornices with a blocking course. A prominent Ionic column porch, resting on high plinths and approached by steps, features a panelled and glazed door with a rectangular fanlight above. A screen wall extends south, topped with stucco coping, and conceals a service wing behind. The coach house is linked to the main villa and has a four-centred arch entrance.
The north wing, a later addition from the 1870s and 1880s, is a single-storey classical structure built of dark red brick. It has rusticated quoins and a parapet coping. A distinctive tripartite window sits within the wing, with consoles supporting a panelled base, and an oculus with patterned glazing is positioned above.
