Description

This is an 1840s stucco villa of substantial size, originally three bays wide and two storeys high, situated on the south side of Hagley Road in Edgbaston. The villa is detached and set well back behind a carriage sweep. The front facade features rusticated channelled stucco running up to the sill course of the first floor. The roof is slate with flat eaves, topped with a moulded bed. The ground floor windows have plainly revealed flat lintels and accommodate three-over-three pane sashes. The first floor retains original four-over-four pane sashes within architrave surrounds. A broad, double-height Doric columned porch, almost forming a porte cochere, features pilasters to the walls and a drip entablature with a blocking course. A slightly screened one-bay wing extends to the right, with a blind wall swept down and extended to act as a screen to the west. To the left is a modernised coach house.
