Description

This is a pair of semi-detached villas, dating from the 1850s. They are constructed of red brick with decorative stucco detailing in an Italianate style. Number 19 has three bays, while Number 20 has two, arranged symmetrically with entrance to the centre of Number 19 and passage entries to each end of Number 20. The buildings have a plinth, a sill band to the first floor, a frieze with a string course, and a bed mould to shallow, boxed eaves. The roofs are slate, with brick chimney stacks topped with ornamental pots. The windows on both floors are accentuated with cornices and blocking courses; those on the ground floor have pediments, while those above have panelled friezes. They are sash windows with tripartite glazing, incorporating arched panes to the sides. The central first-floor window of Number 19 is round-headed with radiating glazing bars, set within a panelled architrave with splayed feet, and positioned on the blocking course of the doorway. It is topped by a pediment supported by large acanthus console brackets. The main entrances feature pilastered surrounds, deep entablatures with modillion bracket cornices, four-panel doors, and fanlights with an inverted looped radial and marginal glazing pattern. The passage entries have pilastered arches with similar fanlight designs.
