Description
21 and 22 Yew Tree Road are a pair of semi-detached villas built around 1850 to 1855. They are constructed of red brick with Italianate stucco dressings. The symmetrical frontages each have three bays, with a narrow vertical recess marking the party wall. The villas feature a plinth, a first-floor sill course, and a bed string leading to a frieze with consoles supporting small modillions to the flat, boxed eaves. The roofs are slate, with brick chimney stacks topped with ornamental pots. The windows are set within eared architrave surrounds with cornices; the outer first-floor windows have shallow segmental pediments, and the ground floor windows have aprons extending down to the plinth, featuring profiled scrolls flanking roundels. The doorways are pilastered, with coupled consoles to the cornices and wreathed blocking courses; the recessed entrances have arched architrave surrounds, panelled reveals, and double doors, with acanthus leaf ornament to the spandrels.
