Description
This is a pair of villas situated on Wingfield Road, dating from the 1860s. They are constructed of stucco with stucco detailing, and have a dry slate roof with eaves entablature and console brackets. Stuccoed stacks rise from the roof, incorporating a moulded entablature. The villas are built on a double-depth plan, with rear service wings on each side.
The garden front has two storeys and four bays. Canted bay windows are present on the left and right, featuring moulded entablatures. Other windows have pilaster jambs and moulded hoods, with consoles supporting triangular pediments on the first floor. Number 135 retains its original twelve-pane hornless sash windows, while Number 133 has later replacements with horns. The left-hand return mirrors the detailing of the two-bay entrance break, while the right-hand return features a porch with a balustraded balcony above. The porch has a moulded entablature with modillions on paired Tuscan columns, as well as an overlight and a mahogany panelled door. A mirror-image return on the right side has similar features, with steps leading up to the porch balcony.
The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of a high quality, reflecting the exterior.
The property includes stuccoed walls with Plymouth limestone copings, and square gate-piers made of Plymouth limestone. These gate-piers have keyed round-arched panels and moulded cornices to their caps, which are ramped up to acorn finials. The villas are part of a notable group of villas.
