Description
The lodge at the entrance to a planned group of villas was built in the early 19th century by John Foulston. It is constructed of stucco with stucco detailing and features a dry slate roof with conical ends on the projecting eaves, along with a brick stack to the right of the ridge. The lodge has a small plan with rounded ends and is a single storey building with a three-bay front, a plinth, and a plain eaves entablature. The central window is blind and is flanked by rusticated pilasters; there is a window with glazing bars in the left-hand bay and a recessed gate-pier with a moulded cap to its left. The interior has not been inspected.
Additional features include a high rubble wall to the right of the lodge and a tripartite gateway to the left, which has trellised piers with scrolled caps. The wall was listed on May 1, 1975. This lodge is part of a notable group of villas designed by Foulston, set within their original landscape, making it significant on a national level.
