Description
A pair of villas dating from the early 19th century, designed by John Foulston. The villas are constructed from stucco with stucco detailing, and have a dry slate hipped roof featuring a moulded cornice with modillions to the wide eaves soffit. The end stacks are rendered. They are built on a double-depth plan, with service wings at the rear left and right, and entrance porches set back to the return elevations.
The two-storey buildings have a regular six-window range, with a plinth and quoin strips. They feature original 12-pane hornless sash windows, with pilastered jambs and moulded hoods on consoles to the ground floor. The return elevation porches are enclosed and have pilasters and heavy cornices, with original panelled doors.
The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest. The villas form part of a notable group of villas designed by Foulston, situated within their original landscape, which is remarkable in a national context.
