Description
A pair of villas located within a planned group, dating from the early 19th century and designed by John Foulston. The buildings are constructed of incised stucco with stucco detailing, featuring a dry slate hipped roof with a moulded cornice and modillions to the wide eaves soffit. Rendered end stacks are present. The buildings have a double-depth plan, with service wings at the rear left and right, and entrance porches set back to the return elevations.
The two-storey design has a regular six-window range, with a plinth and quoin strips. The windows are likely original 12-pane hornless sashes; those on the ground floor have pilastered jambs and moulded hoods supported by consoles. Number 13 features a cast-iron verandah with reeded columns and segmental arches with trailing scrolled detailing. A three-bay conservatory sits above the verandah in front of the central window. Enclosed porches to the return elevations incorporate corner pilasters and a moulded entablature, with original panelled doors.
The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. These villas form part of a significant group designed by Foulston, situated within their original landscape, which is remarkable in a national context.
