Description
A pair of villas located within a planned group, built in the early 19th century by John Foulston. The villas are constructed of incised stucco with stucco detailing, and have dry slate hipped roofs with projecting eaves and pediments above slightly projecting end bays. Rendered stacks are present at the ends. The design incorporates a double-depth plan, with service wings at right angles to the rear centre, and entrance porches set back on the left and right.
The two-storey garden front is symmetrical, with four bays, and features sashes with large panes of glass. Ground-floor windows are sheltered by moulded hoods supported on consoles. The return elevations have three bays, which are largely blind except for central windows above the porches. These windows are topped with a moulded entablature and have paired, unfluted columns. Original panelled doors are still in place.
The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest. The villas are part of a significant group designed by Foulston, maintaining their original landscaping and representing a notable example in a national context.
