Description
A pair of villas located within a planned group, built in the early 19th century by John Foulston. The villas are constructed of incised stucco with stucco detailing, and have a dry slate hipped roof with projecting eaves and a triangular pediment over the central two bays. Rendered end stacks are also present. The buildings have a double-depth plan, incorporating rear service wings to the left and right, and entrance porches set back on the left and right.
The two-storey facades are symmetrical, featuring a 1:2:1 bay arrangement with a plinth and a first-floor sill band. They retain their original hornless sash windows with glazing bars, all set under moulded hoods supported by consoles; those at number 4 have pilasters. The porches are enclosed with heavy cornices to their return elevations, and contain original panelled doors.
The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest. These villas form part of a noteworthy group designed by Foulston, situated within their original landscape, which is remarkable in a national context.
