Description

Nos 17, 18 and 19 Spring Road form a group of three small villas dating from the 1830s and 1840s. They were originally identical, each with a symmetrical three-bay front. The facades are stuccoed, featuring a plinth and quoin pilasters. The roofs are slate with low gables, flat eaves and brick chimney stacks topped with ornamental pots. The ground floor has channelled detailing extending up to the first floor sill band. First-floor windows are set in shallow flat arched panels, while ground-floor windows are in segmental arched panels with radiating channelled voussoirs. Most windows have renewed modern glazing bar sashes, though No 17’s have been replaced. No 19 has a ground floor bay window dating to around 1870, with a tripartite sash window and bracketed cornice replacing the original window. The doorways have broad stucco frames originally studded with rosettes (these have been removed from No 19), and shallow cornices. Nos 17 and 19 have modern doors, but No 18 retains its original panelled door, accompanied by a fanlight with an oval glazing pattern.
