Description

These are a pair of attached villas, numbers 18 and 19 Wellington Road, dating from the 1840s. Originally identical, they were built of stucco. The houses are two storeys high and have three bays each. They feature quoin pilasters on the ground floor and a sill band on the first floor, with a frieze below the eaves. The roofs are slate, with shallow boxed eaves and stucco corniced chimneys topped with decorative pots. Around 1860, two-storey pilastered canted bay windows were inserted into the end bays of each house. The ground-floor windows are set within segmental arched panels with channelled arches, while the first-floor windows have architrave surrounds. The doorways have projecting architrave surrounds topped with pediments on console brackets, and include panelled reveals and soffits, as well as rectangular fanlights. Number 18 retains its original six-panel door, while number 19 has a decorative late 19th-century frosted glass panel. Red brick flanks and the rear elevations are visible.
