Description

Nos 14 and 15 Frederick Road are a pair of semi-detached villas built between 1830 and 1840. These two-storey stucco buildings each have three bays and central doorways. No 15 has some later 19th-century alterations. A plinth and first-floor sill band run across both villas, topped by a low-pitched hipped slate roof with flat eaves supported by shallow brackets. The chimneys are corniced and made of stucco. The first-floor windows are plain revealed sash windows with glazing bars. No 14 retains its original ground-floor windows, which are set in shallow segmental arched panels. In contrast, No 15 features 19th-century thin pilastered canted bay windows with pent roofs on the ground floor. Each villa has a prominent doorway framed by slender three-quarter fluted Tuscan columns in antis, topped with a modillion corniced entablature and a large fanlight. No 14 has a double panelled door, while No 15 has a six-panel door with a fanlight above that retains marginal glazing. The coach houses flanking the villas have been altered for No 14, but No 15 still has segmental arched coach doors.
