Description

FREDERICK ROAD 1. 5104 Edgbaston B15 Nos 33 and 34 SP 0585 NE 40/16 II GV 2. C1840-50 similar but smaller semi-detached pair of villas to Nos 31-32. Two storeys red brick with stucco dressings. A rather more unusual symmetrical paired villa design with a 3 bay main block with doorways paired to centre and slightly recessed 2 storey former coach house wings. Hipped slate roof with moulded flat eaves. Band-corniced brick chimney stacks, ornamental pots to No 34. Flanking ground floor windows have glazing bar sashes in architrave surrounds with eared feet rising from plinth, panelled sills, shallow cornices; same on first floor. The doorways to centre have same architrave surrounds as the windows and are set at head of 2 steps. Panelled reveals; doors of 2 round arched panels, marginal glazed rectangular fanlights. The coach house wings are slightly lower. No 33 has stucco pediment containing anthemion and scroll plaque. No 34 has stucco parapet band with raised centre crowned by segmental stucco panel and flanked by shallow scrolls. Glazing bar sashes on first floor. Ground floor former coach houses altered in both cases to window at early date: tripartite sash to No 33 and pilastered canted bay to No 34.
