Description
Nos 24 and 25 Calthorpe Road are a pair of semi-detached villas built around 1840 as part of the Calthorpe Estate. They are two storeys high and each has three bays, topped with a nipped slate roof featuring a dentil eaves cornice. On either side, there are small two-storey gabled coach houses. The villas have undergone some alterations in the mid-19th century.
No 24 features first-floor sash windows framed by colonettes with fluted caps, carved tympana, and miniature dentil pediments. The ground floor has canted bay windows with Doric entablatures and an engaged Roman Doric doorway with an entablature. No 25 is similar but retains original plain first-floor sash windows with panelled sills. It also has rectangular bay windows on the ground floor that were added around 1900. These buildings are included for their group interest.
