Description
The forecourt wall, railings, gate piers, and gates to number 23 on Calthorpe Road in Edgbaston are a notable example of 19th-century design. The structure features a dwarf stucco wall topped with an elegant set of Grecian cast iron railings, which exhibit typical Birmingham details from the period, including spear and crescent heads. The railings rise up to a central lamp standard and are flanked by pairs of open work piers adorned with anthemion and scroll patterns, topped with acanthus finials. The gates are designed with vertical and diagonal trellis work, also featuring spear heads.
