Description

Nos 45, 46, and 47 on Frederick Road in Edgbaston are a group of three identical two-storey detached villas built around 1840. Each villa features three bays with a slight centre break that contains the entrance. The buildings are constructed of stucco and have a plinth and a first-floor sill course. They have low gable end slate roofs with overhanging eaves. No 46 has a recessed, altered coach house way. No 45 has parapeted gable ends. The villas are topped with corniced stucco and brick chimney stacks. The windows are surrounded by architraves, with eared detailing on the ground floor and intact glazing bars on the sashes. The doorways are recessed within moulded frames and flanked by ornately panelled piers that support friezes with three wreaths. The sill courses break forward to form cornices with a blocking course above. The panelled doors are set in panelled reveals and feature rectangular fanlights, with a decorative glazing pattern similar to that of No 45.
