Description
No 48 Frederick Road is a two-storey stucco villa built around 1835-1840, likely originally detached but now adjoined to No 47. The villa features a symmetrical three-bay front, with the central entrance slightly advanced. It has a plinth, a channelled ground floor, and a sill course at the first floor. The low-pitched gable end slate roof has flat eaves and a later brick chimney stack.
The first-floor windows are set in architrave surrounds with aprons to the sill course. The central window has an Egyptianised architrave decorated with rosettes, and all windows have revealed sashes with intact glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two canted bay windows from around 1860, each topped with saw tooth cornices. The door is set in a recess with an architrave, flanked by engaged Greek Doric columns. The entablature features guttae strings, wreaths in the frieze, and a projecting cornice. The reveals, soffit, and door are all panelled.
