Description
Nos 4 and 5 Vicarage Road are a pair of identical stucco villas built around 1830, located in Edgbaston, Birmingham. These two-storey buildings feature three-bay symmetrical fronts. Each villa has a plinth and a ground floor that is channelled up to the first floor sill course. They have deep flat eaves beneath pediment gable end slate roofs, with flanking chimney stacks. The first floor windows are set in archivolt surrounds, and all windows are sash types that retain their glazing bars.
The central doorways of each villa are framed by tall, slender Greek Doric column engaged porches with deep entablatures. The panelled doors are set in panelled reveals and soffits, with No 5 featuring a rectangular fanlight with intact patterned glazing. There are coach houses flanking the villas; the coach house of No 5 has been remodelled, while No 4 retains its segmental arched doors and window above. Both coach houses project slightly and feature a band cornice and parapet, with recessed passage entrance links.
