Description

This is a group of three pairs of semi-detached houses, dating to circa 1840. They form an attractive, secluded composition set at right angles to Hagley Road, accessed via a pathway. The houses are stuccoed with slate roofs. Each house is two storeys high and features three bays. The ground floor has a central round arched entrance with steps leading up to it, flanked by two windows set within shallow, four-centred arched recesses. A moulded string course runs along the sill level of the first floor. The first floor has a central blank window and two windows. Most windows are sash windows with original glazing bars. The pairs of houses are connected by a brick wall, which includes a central shallow recess beneath a gable and two side entrances. Number 157 on Hagley Road has gate piers to the left and right of its composition, the right-hand pier marking the entrance to the pathway. The gate piers are stuccoed with banded rustication, a cornice, and flat tops. The pathway wall is original for approximately the first 20 feet and is constructed of red brick with a stucco coping.
