Description

A terrace of five houses, numbered 19 to 27, now converted into flats, was constructed between approximately 1818 and 1828. The houses are accompanied by attached railings. They are built of reddish-brown brick with painted stucco frontages, and have Welsh slate roofs.

The houses are three storeys high with basements, featuring ten first-floor windows (two per house). A first-floor band is present on numbers 19, 25, and 27, topped by tall pilaster strips at each end of the terrace. The original windows are mostly 6/6 sashes; however, the central house has 12-pane French windows. The second floor has 3/6 sashes, predominantly with horns, and cornices below. The ground floor entrances are a consistent design: four or five steps lead to a six-panel door within a fielded-panel surround, featuring an overlight with glazing bars and a pilastered surround, with a pulvinated frieze above, except for number 23 which has a plain cornice. The windows to numbers 19, 25, and 27 are wider and taller, set within elliptically-arched recesses. Basement windows are 10/10 sashes, visible at the three houses on the right. Chimney stacks are located at the ends of numbers 19 and 21. Individual balconies with a circle-and-anthemion motif are situated on the first floor. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. The attached railings are of a lancet design, used along the sides of the steps and across the front of the terrace.

Brunswick Street was laid out in 1818 and construction was completed by 1828.
