Description

Two houses at numbers 62 and 64 Clemens Street, Royal Leamington Spa, were built around 1818 and have undergone later alterations. They are now used as shops and flats. The exterior is pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade, topped with Welsh slate roofs, and featuring cast-iron balconies.

The houses are three storeys high, with two windows on the first floor. The first floor has French windows with eight panes, margin lights, and divided overlights; the one on the left has blocked lower panes, while the one on the right is blind. The second floor has a four-by-eight sash window and a more recent 20th-century window. An eaves band runs along the top of the building.

The ground floor has a pair of central entrances with plank and partially glazed doors and overlights – the overlight on the right has glazing bars. These entrances are framed by a shared doorcase with Tuscan pilasters, a frieze, and a hood. To the left is a shop front with a triple window between pilasters and overlights with glazing bars, and glazed double doors beneath a frieze and dentil cornice. A wider window, with 20th-century glazing, is located in an architrave of Tuscan pilaster strips and a frieze. All windows are set in plain reveals. Tall end stacks with cornices are also present. A balcony with an oval, lattice, and s-scroll motif is attached to the first-floor window on the right.

The interior has not been inspected. The properties contribute to group value and are best appreciated in conjunction with the adjacent number 66.
