Description

A pair of early 19th century houses, now shops with flats, located on Radford Road, Royal Leamington Spa. The houses are constructed of reddish-brown brick with unpainted stucco facades, and have a Welsh slate roof. They are four storeys high, with four first-floor windows. Tall pilasters are positioned between the first and second windows and extend to the right end of the building from the first floor to the eaves. The pilaster on the right incorporates an Ionic capital. The first floor features three 6/6 sash windows and a tripartite window comprised of a 6/6 sash between two 2/2 sashes. A band marks the second floor, with a 1/1 sash and three 6/6 sashes. The third floor has four 3/6 sashes, all with sills and in plain reveals. The ground floor has entrances to each house, the left-hand one blocked and now containing a casement window. Otherwise, there are two roll-edged steps leading to a 6-fielded-panel door with an overlight containing glazing bars, set within a double-chamfered surround and a plain architrave. A part-boarded canted bay is located to the left, and a shop front with a canted bay and glazed entrance to the right. A moulded cornice and blocking course continues to the right return. A hipped roof tops the building, and tall rear stacks have cornices. The right return elevation features three first-floor windows. The left-hand windows are blind, while those on the ground floor are boarded. The first and second floors have 6/6 sashes, and the third floor has 3/6 sashes, all in plain reveals with sills. The interior was not inspected.
