Description

Gordon House, located at No. 3A Gordon Passage, is a house that has been converted into three flats. It was built in 1810, with later additions and alterations, including ground-floor bay windows from the late 19th century and a late 20th-century extension to the left. The house was originally commissioned for the Duchess of Gordon. It features reddish-brown brick in Flemish bond, with dressings of red rubbed brick and a plain tile roof.

The exterior consists of three storeys and three first-floor windows, with attics in the gables. The first and second floors have 4/4 sash windows, which are larger on the first floor, all set in plain reveals and featuring horns, sills, and flat arches made of gauged brick. The ground floor has a central entrance with a part-glazed, panelled door in plain reveals and a flat arch of gauged brick, set within a distyle Doric porch that includes engaged half-columns, a frieze, and a cornice. The canted bays each contain three 4/4 sash windows with horns, friezes, and cornices. The building has a modillion eaves cornice and end stacks with cornices, along with small casement windows in the gables.

Inside, there is a dogleg staircase with stick balusters and a turned newel post. Historically, the Gordon family were among the first nobility to support the Spa, and Russell Terrace was laid out around 1828 to 1836.
