Description

Number 17 is a house that has been converted into flats, built around 1832 with later additions and alterations. The building features pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco on the front facade, a concealed roof, and a cast-iron verandah. It stands three storeys high, with a basement and attic, and has two first-floor windows.

On the ground floor, the entrance is located to the right, accessed by seven steps leading to a four-panel, part-glazed door set in a deep recess. The doorcase is adorned with two Tuscan pilasters that support a round arch. The ground floor also has a 2/2 sash window in plain reveals with a sill. The first floor features 12-pane French windows with plain reveals, while the second floor has two 6/6 sash windows, also in plain reveals with sills. The basement includes a 4/4 sash window. The building is topped with a cornice and blocking course, and there are side stacks and concealed dormer windows. The first floor has a continuous verandah with a balustrade that features a double-rod-and-anthemion motif.

The interior has not been inspected. The property also includes subsidiary features such as lancet area railings. Historically, Dale Street was laid out around 1832, with the east side of the street constructed by 1834.
