Description

Number 11 and its attached railings is a house dating to circa 1832, with later additions and alterations including a rear extension. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco front facade, and has a concealed roof. Cast-iron balcony and railings are also present.

The house is three storeys high with a basement and attic, and has two windows to the first floor. The ground floor is rusticated, and features an entrance with five roll-edged steps leading to a four-panel, part-glazed door with an overlight within a tetrastyle porch. The porch has two Tuscan columns and two Egyptian columns, a double frieze, and a cornice. To the left of the door is a tripartite window with a 1/1 sash between narrower 1/1 sashes, set within rusticated flat arches with raised keystones. The first floor has tall 6/9 sashes with margin-lights, while the second floor has two 6/6 sashes. All windows are in plain reveals with moulded surrounds, the second-floor windows having sills. The basement has a part-glazed door and a 4/8 sash, both in plain reveals with sill. A frieze, cornice, and blocking course run along the front. An attic dormer is partly concealed, and side stacks are present.

A continuous balcony with an elongated figure-of-eight balustrade is present on the first floor, with a replacement above the porch. The frieze, cornice, and blocking course continue to match those of the adjacent property at number 9.

The interior retains original joinery and plasterwork, including an inner hall with a dentil cornice, and a staircase with stick balusters.

Attached area railings are also part of the property. Dale Street was laid out circa 1832, and the east side was completed by 1834.
