Description
Number 5 is a house that has been converted into flats, built around 1832 with later additions and alterations, including mid-20th century attic dormers. The building features reddish-brown brick with a painted stucco front facade and a concealed roof, along with a cast-iron balcony, verandah, and railings.
The exterior consists of three storeys with a basement and attic, and there are two first-floor windows. The ground floor has horizontal rustication. The entrance is accessed by three roll-edged steps leading to a part-glazed door flanked by pilaster strips and sidelights, topped with a cornice and an elliptical overlight. The porch is distyle, featuring engaged Tuscan pilasters and Egyptian columns, along with a double frieze and cornice. The tripartite window consists of two 2/2 sashes between a 1/1 sash, with a blind box above. The first floor has two 2/2 sash windows, while the second floor also has two 2/2 sashes, all set in plain reveals with sills. The basement features a part-glazed board door and a 2/2 sash window, both with plain reveals and sills. The building has a frieze, cornice, and blocking course, with end stacks. The first floor includes a continuous balcony above the porch and verandah, decorated with an ornamental scroll motif.
The interior has not been inspected. The property also includes subsidiary features such as lancet area railings and railings to the sides of the porch, along with a gate to the basement.
Historically, Dale Street was laid out around 1832, with the east side constructed by 1834.
