Description

Number 2 is a villa, now functioning as a club, built between 1824 and 1836, with some additions and alterations made in the mid to late 20th century, including attics and an entrance bay on the right. The building is constructed from pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco facades, topped with a cement-tile roof. It features cast-iron railings and a balcony. The villa is two storeys high, with an attic and basement, and has three first-floor windows.

On the first floor, there is a moulded band with Doric pilasters between the windows and at the ends, and the windows are 2/2 sashes. The building has a frieze, cornice, and a low parapet. A flight of five steps leads to the central entrance, which consists of a part-glazed door with a fanlight, set within a distyle Doric porch that has an entablature. There are bow windows in the outer bays at the basement and ground floors, each with two 6/6 sash windows. The first floor features a continuous balustrade with a circle motif across the tops of the bow windows and the porch.

The interior has not been inspected. The area railings and gate, as well as the sides of the porch, are decorated with bars featuring paterae and anthemion finials. Historically, Portland Street was laid out in 1823-4, and Numbers 2-8 (even) Portland Street form an architectural group.
