Villa, now flats and attached railings. c1824-1836 with later additions and alterations including those of mid-C20. Pinkish-brown brick with scored stucco facade, Welsh slate roof and cast-iron railings. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with basement and attic, 3 first-floor windows. First floor: continuous band surmounted by Doric pilasters to ends and between windows. Central casement window between 10-pane French windows with margin-lights. Frieze, cornice, blocking course conceals attic roof dormers. Ground floor, central entrance: 5 steps to part-glazed, panelled door with fanlight with radial glazing within distyle Doric porch with engaged pilasters and entablature. Bow windows rise from basement and have two 6/6 sashes per bow; 3-pane lights to basement. End stacks. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings and to sides of porch have stick bars. HISTORICAL NOTE: Portland Place was laid out 1823-4. Nos 2-8 (even) Portland Street (qqv) form an architectural group.
