Description

Number 6 is a villa, now converted into flats, built between 1824 and 1836, with later additions and alterations, including some from the mid-20th century. It features a pinkish-brown brick structure with a scored stucco facade, a Welsh slate roof, and cast-iron railings.

The building has two storeys, a basement, and an attic, with three windows on the first floor. The first floor includes a continuous band with Doric pilasters at the ends and between the windows. There is a central casement window flanked by two 10-pane French windows with margin-lights. A frieze, cornice, and blocking course conceal the attic roof dormers. The ground floor has a central entrance with five steps leading to a part-glazed, panelled door topped by a fanlight with radial glazing, all within a distyle Doric porch featuring engaged pilasters and an entablature. Bow windows extend from the basement, each with two 6/6 sash windows, and there are three-pane lights in the basement. The building has end stacks.

The interior has not been inspected. The area railings and those beside the porch have stick bars. Historically, Portland Place was laid out between 1823 and 1824, and Numbers 2-8 on Portland Street form an architectural group.
