Description
Numbers 28 and 30 are a pair of semi-detached villas dating from approximately 1825 to 1832. They are constructed of stucco over brick, with a hipped slate roof and brick and stuccoed stacks. The rear of the building features full-height service ranges. The exterior detailing includes horizontal rustication to the ground floor and a moulded band to the first floor, surmounted by pilasters at the ends and to the right of the second window and the left of the third. A paired entrance is located at the centre, with roll-edged steps leading to a shared porch with a tristyle Doric design, featuring an architrave, frieze with triglyphs and metopes, cornice, and blocking course. The entrances have five-panel, part-glazed doors, with raised and fielded upper panels and fluted lower panels. Original windows are 6/6 sashes in plain reveals with sills. The basement windows are 10/10 sashes. The rear of Number 28 has a bow window through the basement and ground floor, with an 8-pane French window. The interior was not inspected. The balustrade to the sides of the porch incorporates a scrolled lozenge motif. Park Place was developed by 1832. The villas are part of a group and abut Numbers 20-26 (even) and Numbers 32-40 (even) Park Place and Number 8 Ashford Road.
