Description

Numbers 24 and 26 are a pair of semi-detached villas built around 1832, with attached railings to No. 26. The buildings are constructed of stucco over brick and feature a hipped slate roof, central stucco stacks, and cast- and wrought-iron balconies, railings, and porches. The main range has entrance bays that are set back on the sides, with single-storey service ranges at the rear.

The exterior consists of two storeys above a basement, with attics and six first-floor windows arranged in a 1:4:1 pattern. Notable stucco detailing includes pilasters at the ends and center of both the ground and first floors, sunk panels, a decorated first-floor band, and an ornate crowning frieze featuring an anthemion motif. There are cornices and friezes, and the windows have tooled architraves. The ground floor windows are taller and all windows are 6/6 sashes. The end entrances have flights of roll-edged steps leading to five-panel doors with fanlights that feature radial glazing bars. The eaves are wide, and the attic dormers have casements. The rear retains 6/6 sashes and has round-arched staircase windows, with No. 24 featuring a 6/6 sash with radial glazing bars at the head.

The porches display a scrolled lozenge motif on the uprights and have oval and openwork friezes. The individual balconies on the ground floor feature a double scrolled lozenge motif, similar to the design used at Nos 1-16 Clarence Square, which was developed at the same time. The steps on the right have arrowhead railings with bars and dogbars.

Historically, Park Place was developed by 1832 and forms a group with Nos 20 and 22, as well as Nos 28-40, which are also part of the heritage context.
