Description
Numbers 32 and 34 are a pair of semi-detached villas built around 1826-32. They are constructed with stucco over brickwork, featuring a hipped slate roof and a central stucco stack. The design follows a double-depth plan with abutting side hallways.
The villas are two storeys high, with a basement level, and have six windows on the first floor, arranged in a 1:4:1 configuration, with the entrance bays slightly set back. Architectural detailing includes a first-floor band and a central pilaster with a sunk panel. The original windows are mostly 6/6 sashes, taller on the ground floor, set in plain reveals with sills. Venetian blind boxes remain on the left-hand house. The basement windows are 3/6 sashes. The entrances consist of five-panel, part-glazed doors with raised and fielded upper panels, flush lower panels, a dentil frieze, and fanlights; the fanlight above the left-hand entrance has radial glazing bars. Both entrances are framed by pilastered surrounds with dentil friezes. Wide eaves are also present.
The interior retains original joinery, including panelled shutters.
Subsidiary features include boundary railings to the left side with arrowhead bars, dogbars, and urn finials. Area railings on the right side have three levels of bars.
Park Place was developed by 1832 and these villas form a group with numbers 20-30 (even) and 36-40 (even) of Park Place, as well as number 8 Ashford Road.
