Description

Numbers 11 and 15 are a pair of semi-detached villas built around 1826-1830, featuring stucco over brick and a hipped slate roof with a central stucco stack. They have an iron balcony and railings. The villas have a double-depth plan with side halls and full-height service ranges at the rear.

The exterior consists of two storeys above a basement, with six first-floor windows arranged in a 3:3 pattern. Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication at the ground floor with flat arches above the openings, a first-floor band, and elliptically-arched window surrounds on feet. The crowning moulded band and wide eaves are supported by brackets with incised panels between. The first floor features elliptically-arched 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes, while the ground floor has horned 1/1 sashes, all set in plain reveals. The left side has blind boxes on the first floor. The end entrances are accessed by flights of steps leading to three-panel doors, which have raised and fielded upper panels and flush lower panels, along with sidelights and an overlight. The rear of the villas retains 6/6 sashes, and the returns have tall 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes.

The interior retains original joinery, including panelled shutters, although it has not been fully inspected. The attached railings beside the steps and the continuous ground-floor balconies feature alternately embellished and scrolled rods. Numbers 11 and 15, along with other nearby properties, form a group of architectural significance.
