Description

Numbers 11 and 15 are a pair of semi-detached villas, built around 1820 to 1832, with attached railings to the left-hand side (Number 15). There is no number 13 in the terrace. The villas are constructed of ashlar stone, over brick (painted on the left-hand side) with hipped slate roofs and central stucco stacks with wrought iron balconies.

Architecturally, the two-storey villas have a basement and attics, with six windows on the first floor, arranged in a 1:4:1 format, with the central four-window range projecting forward. Ashlar detailing includes Doric pilasters at the ends and the centre of the breakforward, featuring an incised Greek key motif that interrupts a tooled first-floor band. Ground-floor windows have tooled architraves. Most windows are 6/6 sashes; the basement windows are a mix of 6/6, 8/8, and 4/4 sashes. Roll-edged stone steps lead to the end entrances, which are contained within porches with Doric pilasters, an incised Greek key and anthemion motif, a frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course. The entrances consist of a three-panel door with sidelights and a cambered fanlight with batwing-and-circle glazing bars. The villas have wide eaves. The rear elevation mainly features 6/6 sashes, with shallow conservatories including multi-paned windows on both houses. Attic windows are located at the rear: Number 11 has a 6/6 sash, while Number 15 has a roof dormer with a casement window. The interiors have not been inspected.

The attached balconies are considered outstanding, demonstrating a circular web design with scroll panels and anthemion crestings. A stone balcony with short, bulbous balusters is attached to the window on the left-hand side of Number 15. The railings to either side of the steps up to Number 15 have an X-motif. Park Place was developed by 1832.
