Description
Number 21 and its attached railings are a house, built around 1832, and later altered, now converted into flats. The house is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco front facade, a cement-tile roof, and cast-iron railings. It is three storeys high with a basement and has four first-floor windows. A canted bay window extends the full height on the left side. The ground floor has horizontal rustication. The entrance is reached by four steps leading to a four-panel door with sidelights and a divided, basket-arched overlight. A projecting porch has solid sides and two Egyptian-style columns, topped with a frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The windows are mostly 2/2 sashes; those in the bay on the ground floor are 1/1 sashes. The basement windows are 3/3 sashes in the centre and 2/2 sashes to the sides of the bay. The window surrounds are moulded, with keystones to the ground and first floors, and roll-moulded surrounds to the second floor. The interior was not inspected. The attached railings have lancet details, end posts with anthemion finials, and posts to the sides of the steps. Dale Street was laid out around 1832, with the east side built by 1834.
