Description
Gilbert's Green House is a house located in Tanworth-in-Arden, dating from the late 16th century to the early to mid-17th century, with later additions and alterations. These include a gable-ended range to the left and a rear extension from the mid-20th century. The building features small timber-framing with arched braces and close-studding, painted plaster infill, and a reddish-brown brick ground floor, topped with plain-tile roofs.
The exterior is single storey and attic, as well as two storeys high, with a three-window range. The off-centre entrance is sheltered by a 20th-century porch and features a plank stable door. The upper floor has three metal casement windows.
Inside, the house showcases extensive exposed timber-framing. The ground floor ceilings have chamfered beams with ogee stops. There is an inglenook fireplace at the original left end, which includes a bressumer beam with a massive chamfer on the inside. The remains of a queen-strut roof are visible, with exposed purlins and rafters that appear to be smoke-blackened. Some board doors are also present.
