Description
The threshing barn at Beaumont Hill Farm is a building likely dating from the early 18th century, with some rebuilding in the 19th century and additional outshuts on the west facade. There is also a probable 17th-century range to the north. The west facade connects to a 19th-century stable, while the east facade is partially hidden by 20th-century open cow shelters.
This timber-framed barn features pinkish-brown brick nogging and red brick rebuilding, topped with a plain-tile roof. It has five bays, with an additional bay to the north and two outshuts under catslide roofs on the west side, as well as a porch on the east side. The barn has opposing central double plank threshing doors, with the front doors located between the two outshuts and the rear doors situated in a gable-ended porch that includes a collar-and-tie-beam truss with queen posts.
The west facade also has plank split stable doors to the right, situated between two elliptically-arched openings with a pitching door above, all covered with planks. To the left, there is a 20th-century four-light casement window and another plank door leading to the outshut. The west facade of the north range displays rectangular panels of timber-framing, which are also visible on the east facade and the south gable end.
Inside, similar timber-framing panels can be seen on the west wall, though they are now covered by the outshuts. The roof structure includes five collar-and-tie-beam trusses with queen posts and one with angle struts, along with two tiers of original purlins and a ridge piece. On either side of the threshing floor, there are cross-frames and low walls.
This barn forms a group with Beaumont Hill Farmhouse.
