Description

Brook House Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse, dating from before 1746, which incorporates a 17th-century range at the rear and a former dairy. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick and features a Welsh slate roof.

The building has three storeys and a three-window range, with a central gabled break that projects forward. There are steps leading to a central six-panel, part-glazed door set in a wooden doorcase with plain pilasters, a frieze, and a hood. The outer bays on the ground and first floors have 8/8 sash windows, while the centre bay on the first floor has a 6/6 sash. The second-floor outer bays contain 4/4 sashes, and the centre bay has a blind round-arched opening. All windows have sills and flat arches made of rubbed brick, except for the round-arched opening. The left return features blind openings to the front bay, and there is a stack at the left end. The roof is hipped at the front and has two gables at the rear.

Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered beams with run-out stops, six-fielded-panel doors, and six-panel doors. There are three Victorian cast-iron fireplaces, and remnants of the dairy can still be seen.

Surrounding the yard at Brook House Farm are several farm buildings, including a threshing barn, pigsties, a cow house, a pigeon house, a stable, and a cart shed, all of which contribute to the group value of the site.
