Description
Brook Farmhouse, which is now a house, dates back to the 17th century and was extended in the early 18th century, with a refronting in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble, while the front and side walls from the early 19th century are made of Flemish bond brick featuring flared headers. It has a gabled and half-hipped stone slate roof and a large stone ridge stack. The layout is a two-unit plan, likely with a lobby entry, which was extended to a U-plan with rear wings in the early 18th century. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-window range front with timber lintels and keyed segmental arches above early 19th-century eight-pane sash windows. There is a 20th-century door and porch on the right side wall. At the rear, a stair-turret features a 17th-century two-light chamfered wood-mullioned window in the attic. The early 18th-century two-storey extensions at the back have brick segmental arches, and there are stone steps leading to the granary at the rear right, which has a brick segmental arch over a three-light leaded casement. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
