Description

Brundish House is a farmhouse dating from the mid-16th century, with additions from the 17th century. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure with a hipped roof, primarily covered with plain tiles at the front and pantiles at the rear. The building has two storeys and an attic, arranged in a U-shape plan, consisting of a three-cell cross-entry front range and later wings at the rear.

The façade includes four windows, mostly 18th-century casements, with old square-leaded panes in the upper windows and one ground floor window. To the right, there is a 19th-century tripartite sash window. The entrance features a 19th-century six-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed, and is topped with a bracketed pediment. An internal stack has a rectangular shaft with a moulded base and two slender buttresses on each long side, capped in the 19th century, with a rendered base inscribed 'WK 1866'.

The right-hand return front has three windows: tripartite sashes on the ground floor and six-paned sashes on the first floor, including a longer central stair window with stained glass. The doorway here also has a six-panel raised and fielded door, with an architrave and pediment. A shallow-gabled dormer is present, and the service wing has slatted windows on the ground floor. The rear features further old square-leaded windows, including one with early diamond-leaded glass.

Inside, the property remains largely unaltered since the 19th century, with an intact dairy and scullery. The hall contains a roll-moulded bridging beam, with the mouldings continuing onto the storey posts and ending in ornate corbels, similar to those at Brundish Manor. The parlour has a moulded bridging beam and cornice, while the hall chamber features a plank and muntin partition, likely from the late 17th century. A late 18th-century staircase has been added at the rear of the parlour. There are also several good mid to late 19th-century fireplaces with cast iron grates. The first floor framing indicates that the service end was extended by one bay before the rear addition was constructed.
